About Catherine
Catherine Henderson grew up in rural England, and spent seven years in an Anglican boarding school run by nuns. Her family medical care included osteopathy, and at 16, an emotional crisis led to osteopathy as her life path.
At 19, she began four years study at the European School of Osteopathy. Tom Dummer DO, the Principal, was a Tibetan Buddhist, and he created a faculty who taught a wide range of osteopathic techniques: from high velocity adjustments to myofascial release to cranial osteopathy. The only woman in her class, Catherine and her cohort were drawn to cranial osteopathy and its gentle energetic approach to treatment, including infants and children.
Later practicing in London, Catherine and her colleagues pioneered pediatric osteopathy in the UK.
During this time Catherine met Irina Tweedie, a Sufi Master, who taught dreamwork as a spiritual practice. The Sufi connection led her to Berkeley in 1986, and she then studied pre- and peri-natal psychology with William Emerson and Ray Castellino.
This was followed by studies with James Jealous DO, an osteopathic physician who taught about the embryonic blueprint of Health, treating in connection with the Natural World, and what evolved to become Biodynamic Osteopathy.
Catherine spent 35 years studying and co-teaching with Dr Jealous, while she had a family practice in Berkeley.
In 2009 she suffered a serious brain injury, and during recovery it became clear a slower, rural life was needed. In 2016, she moved to Vashon Island.
She brings over four decades of experience to her work, using gentle deep listening and innate wisdom. Weaving her artist and healer aspects together she brings her personal connection with the natural world, Celtic spirituality, Jungian psychology and creative exploration, to her practice and teaching.
